The easier way (for me) to tell the date of a MTB LP is to look at the publishing credits on the label. There's four out there that can be used to date a record.

The first one is where there are NO BMI / ASCAP credits on the label. These are the very first, rush release copies and are very rare to find. Apparently only something likr 20,000 copies ever came out and it's thought that only about 50 mono and about a dozen stereo still exist to this day. All copies were pressed in the East plant.

THe second has all ASCAP credits on side one except for the first track which is BMI. These were the common 1st presses and were authorised on Jan 8th, 1964. They appeared alongside the 1st presses and both West and East coast plants pressed them. The STEREO 2nd press West Coast copies are almost as rare as the 1st East.

The 3rd press copies again had all ASCAP but now it's the first two tracks on side 1 that are credited to BMI. This was authorised on Feb 13th, 1964.

After change on March 14th 1966 created the 4th press which saw nearly all songs credited to BMI.

I went to a small local auction yesterday and picked up a mono first pressing copy of AHDN for £2. It has some sleeve damage, but the record itself is in immaculate (I'm tempted to say stunning!) condition, it can only have been played a few times. It was bundled with a few musicals soundtracks - not my cup of tea - but these late 50's pressings are also in tremendous condition. It made my day! :D
