The candlelight flickered in the solitary, dark room. Dark smoke filled the air, drowning out the possibilities, suffocating hope, as the candle in question burned leisurely into oblivion. Neltharion sat without a movement, his mind drifting into the darkness, lost thoughts fading with the smoke. He breathed in slowly, the candle illuminating the corners of his face, eyes glazing over the words. Frustration prickled his fingertips as he set down the paper. How long was he expected to remain here? The passing of time might have meant little to Nozdormu, but eternity wasn't such a simple prospect to Neltharion. He rose, moving swiftly to the far side of the chamber, peering through the stained glass window. If Nozdormu intended to deify himself, he'd have to do it on his own time. Neltharion frowned. He had no intention of remaining pacified, particularly since Nozdormu literally looked for reasons to punish him. He walked over to the door and attempted to open it. Predictably, it was locked. How quaint. With an indignant snort, he ran his fingers over the lock, unsealing it. Apparently Nozdormu was under the impression that he was the only one in the Temple who knew how to wield magic. The elder dragon's naievity was somewhat amusing, and Neltharion found his mouth twitching, not really bothered by the situation. His footsteps were silently in the normally echoing corridors. Another trick he'd learned, thanks to Malygos. Of course, as fate would have it, Malygos was normally the one away, leaving Nozdormu in charge of his studies in his stead. Which was fantastic, of course. Neltharion paused, raising his eyebrows. A faint sound, carried through the air from some distance judging by its level, met his ears. He peered around the corner, eyes narrowed, recognizing the tones. Ysera and Alexstrasza. Perfect. Smirking, he covered the rest of the corridor, arriving at the end within seconds. The cobbled stone floor spilled into a open-roofed courtyard, the main attraction being a somewhat overgrown garden. Neltharion moved into the sunlight, movement instantly catching his eye. Ysera. He ducked behind one of the many gnarled trees as she passed, her fading footfalls signaling that she was gone. Neltharion stepped onto the path again, glancing around, searching. His keen eyes found their target within moments. She was sitting delicately on one of the stone benches. The sunlight cast a glow on her hair, turning it to fire. He could hear her singing quietly, but couldn't make out the words, it was a foreign dialect. Silently, he moved up behind her, pausing when he stood about a foot away, listening, watching. It was such a perfect moment that he hardly dared break it. Moving with an expertise that suggested he was practiced, he knelt down, sneaking his hands around, sliding them across her face, covering her eyes. "Shhh..." He pressed his mouth to her ear, letting the words tickle her as he spoke them. He let his hands drop, running his fingers through her hair. "Hello, my love..." |

Alexstrasza's eyes followed Ysera's form as she departed, retreating back inside. She sighed quietly, her eyes returning to the perfect sky displayed above them. A certain sense of peacefulness washing over her in the quiet of it all, it just felt so undisturbed. Penetrated by nothing. Almost absent mindedly, the words returned to her. Hardly even aware of the fact that she was singing quietly, it simply felt so natural. Sinking in perfectly with everything else. "Étrange de penser que personne ne sait parce que parfois je me retrouve sans oublier Que rien de tout cela est bon, je sais que c'est le signe d'avertissement juste en face de moi Mais quand je tends la main pour me tirer loin de toi que ta main trouve la seule mine de nouveau Là où je suis il n'y a nulle part où se courir à" The words were quiet, gentle, but there was a touch of sorrow to them. "D'une certaine façon encore je me surprends à penser à vous-" Alexstrasza cut herself off sharply, suppressing a gasp as a touch on her face drew her back to reality. There was a brief, frozen moment in which she did nothing as hands covered her eyes. However, before she could react a soft voice met her ears. "Shhh..." Alexstrasza breathed out slowly, recognizing his voice inside of a heartbeat. She closed her eyes briefly as she felt him press his mouth against her ear, allowing his words to tickle her slightly. "Hello, my love..." Alexstrasza's eyes shot open, turning to face him. Trying not to be surprised at how close their faces were now. The words seemed innocent enough, even amusing. But inside they cut deeper, awaking things better left alone. A tiny smile played at the corners of her mouth, keeping her face clean of any other emotion then amusement and mild shock. "Nelfarian," She breathed, watching him under a sensitive gaze. Taking in every moment. Alexstrasza cast a wary glance around, attempting to be sure that they were indeed alone. A twisting sense of wrong pulled at her insides, reminding her. It was necessary as well, sadly. Alexstrasza breathed out slowly, not wanting to allow the silence to drag on awkwardly. She shifted slightly so that they were not so close. "Please, I told you not to..." Alexstrasza's eyes searched the area again, as though expecting someone to suddenly appear. Her voice was still rather playful, keeping the severity to herself. There was no reason to trouble him. |

His mouth tugged into a smirk as she turned sharply to look at him, her face stung with surprise. It was a rewarding reaction. For a brief moment, he thought that he read something else behind her eyes, but then a tiny smile danced across her mouth, laying his momentary concerns to rest - at least for the time being. "Nelfarian." He blinked steadily under her sensitive observation, somewhat pleased that she was using his petname. A brief silence followed; he was quite content to stare at her, but the spaceseemed to make her uncomfortable, and she shifted, pulling away from him. He raised his eyebrows, distaste washing over his face; he made no attempt to disguise it, nor the prickling beneath his skin. "Please, I told you not to..." She cast her eyes around again, looking worried, even watched. Her voice was still playful, but he frowned none-the-less. He knew what she was thinking, though she clearly seemed to think that she'd fooled him. Deciding not to let her masked severity effect him, he raised his eyebrows. "We can go somewhere else, if you'd rather," he teased, snaking his fingers up her arm, brushing her neck. "But, I personally thought it was rather nice out here..." He paused, eyeing her for a moment, the ever so slightly sly smirk never leaving his mouth. "What were you singing? I liked it..." He slid onto the bench so that he was beside her, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her close to him. He toyed with her hair for a moment, then stopped almost suddenly, killing the connection. It was a perfectly painful, awkward moment, and he loved it. "Where have you been, my love? I feel...almost as if...you've been avoiding me..." He frowned, the concern seeping from his voice, sincere. His eyes burned into hers, no longer enjoying the space he'd created. "I've been trying to speak with you for days now, surely you've noticed?" Neltharion taxed her with his most imploring gaze, feeling a dull pain eating away at his insides; it was all that was left in the wake of her recent absence. |

Alexstrasza watched him carefully, feeling almost tense. The peacefulness of it all slowing seeping away. Until she'd almost lost it entirely. Nelfarian made no attempt to hide what he was feeling, or what he thought. It appeared as though he was reading deeply into what she actually felt. Too deeply. "We can go somewhere else, if you'd rather," Alexstrasza felt his fingers sliding up her arm, though her eyes never left his as he brushed her neck gently. She could feel a disturbing sensation growing inside of her, slowing crawling across her body. Dreading the moment that it completely consumed her and left her with nothing else. "What were you singing? I liked it..." Alexstrasza felt her breath catch in her throat, though once again, the words were innocent enough. But when it came to what it was actually about...the truth was hardly a pleasant thing. Especially to her. But sometimes a part of her knew that he had very little respect for the fact that she was quite open with him. Her automatic reaction was to get up as he slid onto the bench beside her, though she remained where she was. Alexstrasza felt herself tighten slightly as he slipped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. For one reason or another that she sometimes liked to pretend she didn't know, she allowed him to play with her hair for a moment. But then he stopped, almost suddenly. The moment that followed seemed strange, out of place. "Where have you been, my love? I feel...almost as if...you've been avoiding me..." Alexstrasza frowned slightly, listening. "I've been trying to speak with you for days now, surely you've noticed?" His gaze was demanding. Alexstrasza looked away from him, not really focusing on anything specific. She thought of all that he had said, drawing perhaps too much from it. Alexstrasza turned back to look at him, feeling pulled in two completely different directions. She breathed out slowly, almost ready to force herself to relax slightly at least. She knew all too well if was easier to handle this when she found him amusing. But the severity of his own words was clear this time. "Yes, I've...been sort of caught up lately. I'm sorry...what did you need to speak to me about?" Alexstrasza sighed quietly, wondering what was wrong with her today. "And as far as the song...I find sometimes singing about things that mean something personal to you helps you work it out. So, as I'm sure you know, I wouldn't typically speak of what the lyrics were." She said quietly, sounding a bit calmer now. More normal. |

Neltharion was forced to confess disappointment to himself. Disappointment in her. Although it was a feeling that he rarely directed towards her, he still found it extremely painful and difficult to accept, perhaps all the more so because of its infrequency. She did not, openly at least, share the pain he was expiriencing in the wake of their recent seperation. He could feel her tensing beneath his fingertips, clearly uncomfortable. Her breath came stiffly, almost consciously, as she attempted to force herself into a state of relaxation. He grimaced, hating the fact that he was inflicting so much discomfort upon her. Or perhaps she was forcing it upon herself. "Yes, I've...been sort of caught up lately. I'm sorry...what did you need to speak to me about?" He just stared at her, unmoving. His fingers rested dead, tangled in her wavy tressess. He burned with the disappointment now. She refused to even acknowledge that she had missed him. He watched her for a long moment, aching, longing to speak, but not finding the motivation. How could he when she seemed so disinterested? She looked more like she wanted to get away then anything else. "And as far as the song...I find sometimes singing about things that mean something personal to you helps you work it out. So, as I'm sure you know, I wouldn't typically speak of what the lyrics were." He almost laughed. It was ironic, in a sick, painful sort of way. She couldn't - or rather wouldn't - tell him anything. Nothing below the surface. He breathed out slowly, forcing himself to respect the boundaries she'd set. "Well," he said, a hint of coldness creeping into his even voice. Not a shred of the playfulness lingered now. "I suppose I'm wasting my your time, then. I must apologize, Alexstrasza, forgive me..." He trailed off, fixing her with his dark hued eyes. Piercing her. "I did not come to cause you discomfort. It was most unintentional. I'll...stop." He looked away, withdrawing his hands from her, feeling stricken. He'd reached out to her and she'd pretended not to notice. The wound felt raw. He was unaccustomed to this sort of rejection, he supposed. Like everything else, the pain would dull in time. It would. It must. No one could live like this. His eyes fell to his hands, and he folded them in his lap, allowing his eyes to remain unfocused for a moment. "Do you enjoy this, Alexstrasza?" He said slowly, unable to prevent overtones of spite from poisoning the words. Neltharion turned his gaze to her sharply, scathing her with his eyes. |

Alexstrasza winced, almost wanting to look away as she saw the pain spreading slowly over Nelfarian's face. He looked beyond disappointed. For a long painful moment, he just stared at her, his hand going limp in her hair. Completely freezing the moment. "Well," His voice was cold now, even distant. "I suppose I'm wasting your time, then. I must apologize, Alexstrasza, forgive me..." Alexstrasza watched him delicately, searching his face for some type of understanding. But there wasn't a trace to be found, not that she had actually expected to find any. "I did not come to cause you discomfort. It was most unintentional. I'll...stop." Alexstrasza felt pain burn at her insides as he looked sharply away from her, withdrawing his hands. Nelfarian was staring down at his own hands now, though her gaze remained resting on him. Alexstrasza hesitated, lingering on the verge of speaking. Unsure of whether or not he was finished. "Do you enjoy this, Alexstrasza?" Alexstrasza almost did a double take, eyes flashing. She couldn't honestly say that she wasn't surprised at his words. They were...unlike how she liked to think of him. It's my fault She grimaced slightly, the strong need to place the blame on herself, and not him, pulsing through her. And truthfully, she could find enough reasons. Of course she'd been happy to see him. Too happy. So, she had immediately tried to back herself off. But it had negatively effected him, more then she had predicted. He seemed hurt, disappointed, and even concerned. Alexstrasza cast a wary glance around, though she wasn't really looking for anything. She drew in a sharp breath as she suddenly realized that tears were standing in her eyes. Alexstrasza didn't look back him as she slowly raised her hand to wipe them away. Nelfarian didn't deserve this...she hated the thought of knowing how she making him feel. "Of course not." Alexstrasza said quietly, almost a whisper. She looked slowly back at him, her gaze gentle. "And it's not you...making me feel this way. It's not your fault at all, it's mine. I don't want you to feel responsible..." Alexstrasza trailed off, fixing him with a meaningful gaze. She smiled softly, wanting him to know that it was okay. "The song...it was about you." |

Neltharion watched her out of the corner of his eye. He couldn't really see her face, only enough to tell that she wasn't looking at him. Her hand flew to her cheek, wiping away what he assumed were tears. He flinched. It took considerable self control on his part to simply watch her struggle. His first reaction was to help her, to comfort her, but there would be little point in nurturing a wound he'd intentionally caused. She needed this pain. He needed this pain. He hardly blamed her for it, she'd tried to make it painless. He'd turned on the light. That did not clear either of them of guilt, in his eyes, at least. "Of course not," her voice came in a breathless whisper. Neltharion felt her eyes burning into the side of his face. He turned to look at her, even though he almost didn't want to. Her gaze was gentle, but full of pain. "And it's not you...making me feel this way. It's not your fault at all, it's mine. I don't want you to feel responsible..." His eyes narrowed very slowly. A part of him appreciated her blaming herself, but it was far from right. She might have begun the process, but he was solely responsible for ripping it open. He watched a soft smile transform her face. "The song...it was about you." He returned the smile, blinking gently, allowing the coldness and spite to fade from him. Neltharion leaned in, pressing his mouth to her neck, speaking in a low voice. "The fault is not yours, Alexstrasza. I understand..." He did understand. He knew exactly why she was afraid to be with him. And he agreed with absolutely none of it. "But please..." His tone turned almost pleading. He took her hand inside of his, squeezing her fingers gently. "You can't do this. I'll keep my silence for whatever time you need. But we cannot keep hiding. Times change, Alexstrasza, you know this..." His voice dropped an octave. "You know what it is I ask of you. They will find us out. You must act before then." He paused, letting the words sink it. "I would gladly reveal it myself to spare you the pain. But it does not rest with me." He pulled her onto his lap, stroking his fingers down her back, staining her neck with kisses. "I implore you to listen to me...there is nothing shameful about this...nothing wrong." |

Alexstrasza felt a steady relief flowing through her as he gently returned the smile, appearing to loosen up a little. Letting the previous moments go. Nelfarian leaned back into her, pressing his mouth to her neck as he spoke in a low tone. "The fault is not yours, Alexstrasza. I understand..." He said quietly. Inside of her Alexstrasza wanted to believe that he understood, but somehow it never seemed like he did. And in a way, sometimes it seemed easier if he didn't. But she knew it actually wasn't any better. And if he truly did understand, it was a positive thing. However, it still didn't necessarily mean he agreed. As a matter of fact, she knew he never would. "But please..." Nelfarian's pleading tone drew Alexstrasza back to reality and she looked back into his eyes. She felt him take her inside of his, squeezing her fingers gently. "You can't do this. I'll keep my silence for whatever time you need. But we cannot keep hiding. Times change, Alexstrasza, you know this..." She breathed out slowly, wondering how many times they'd been over this. The words sounded almost familiar. Not something to dread, just something to be resigned to. "You know what it is I ask of you. They will find us out. You must act before then." He paused, allowing the words a chance to sink in. Not that really needed to think of it; she knew all of this all too well. He was persistent. He never gave up. Her mouth twitched in spite of everything else. "I would gladly reveal it myself to spare you the pain. But it does not rest with me." Alexstrasza closed her eyes as she felt him wrap his arms back around her, pulling her onto his lap. Nelfarian stroked his fingers down her back, running kisses along her neck. "I implore you to listen to me...there is nothing shameful about this...nothing wrong." Alexstrasza sighed quietly at his words, opening her eyes. She why he saw it the way he did. In his mind, the road ahead was clear. But inside she knew there wasn't even a path to begin on. Not a safe one. She wanted to believe in his words, but she knew too much about what he was asking of her. "I wish that were so." Alexstrasza said, her voice still relatively quiet. "But you must accept that things are not that simple...they never have been. I know why you don't see things that way, and I understand if you are upset with me." Alexstrasza looked softly at him, feeling a strong want to explain so much more...to explain that her lack of consent said nothing about how she felt about him. But she knew that everything he was going to understand about this, he already knew. Alexstrasza leaned forward, burying her face in his hair. How long would it go on like this? Until she let go of it, for she knew he wouldn't. |

Neltharion felt her shift beneath his fingers, a quiet sigh escaping her mouth. She didn't sound even slightly contented. He almost winced, heated with the frustration. She did not appear to be capable of relaxing. She didn't even seem to be happy to be with him. "I wish that were so." The words were quiet, but they sounded loud to him, pounding in his head. Neltharion drew his fingers up her back, cradling her face in his hands, tilting his head, watching her. "But you must accept that things are not that simple...they never have been. I know why you don't see things that way, and I understand if you are upset with me." Simple? Of course he knew they weren't simple. He scowled. Was she telling him she was incapable of doing anything that required effort on her part? That if it was hard, it wasn't worth it to her? His face stung as he surveyed her, trying not to feel cold again, trying to tell himself that she was not acting unfairly. But she was. Not only to him, but to herself. He didn't move as she leaned forward, burying her face in his hair. He stroked the back of her head, glad that she wasn't looking at him anymore. He wasn't entirely sure the expression he was wearing would have helped. He wanted to explain it, piece by piece, to break it down and show her just what he meant, but he knew that her lack of understanding was not the issue. She understood, she simply didn't agree. And he couldn't force her into consenting. It took all of his self restraint to bite back the snide remarks which came to mind. "Well," his voice was empty, unintentionally so, but he didn't make a move to change it. "I refuse to do this, then." He pushed her away from him, almost roughly and stood up, adjusting the clasp on his cloak. A sneer twisted his mouth as the irony gripped him. "There is no need to attempt to dull the pain, Alexstrasza. I prefer it vivid. It will serve as a reminder to me not to repeat the mistake." He laughed coldly. "You would do well to return to your consorts, since you clearly prefer them to me. Wait - allow me to rephrase that." He leaned down so that he could speak with her face-to-face again. "Don't say it, I happen to know that you don't prefer them. You just won't do anything about it." The words were fueled by his pain, but he did not regret them in the aftermath. They were birthed from spite, yes, but also from vestiges of truth. |

Alexstrasza could tell quite easily that the following moment was tense. She didn't need to look at him to know that. "Well," Nelfarian started, his voice shatteringly empty. She didn't breathe, living inside of that single moment. Waiting for it to be over, saying nothing. "I refuse to do this, then." He then, pushed her away sharply, perhaps even roughly as he stood up. A sneer twisted his features as he looked down at her, appearing to have stumbled upon some type of realization. "There is no need to attempt to dull the pain, Alexstrasza. I prefer it vivid. It will serve as a reminder to me not to repeat the mistake." Nelfarian laughed coldly, not suggesting a hint of remorse. "You would do well to return to your consorts, since you clearly prefer them to me. Wait - allow me to rephrase that." He leaned down so that they were looking directly into each other's eyes once more. "Don't say it, I happen to know that you don't prefer them. You just won't do anything about it." Alexstrasza just stared at him, though somehow she wasn't surprised. When he became angry or hurt, this was how he handled it. And Alexstrasza knew that she receiving the guilt he was feeding her a little too easily. A seething pain began to creep slowly across her insides, but she didn't allow it to transform into anger. Alexstrasza breathed out slowly, remaining calm. She closed her eyes briefly, sometimes wondering why he had to do this to her. But the reason always avoided her. She stood up sharply, fixing him with a piercing stare. It appeared he didn't feel a spec of regret for his words to her. "Nelfarian, listen to me. You have no respect for the fact that you mean quite a lot to me, so you use it against me. How clever. But do you honestly feel good about that? Or do you just not think about it because it helps you get what you want? You are trying to hurt me, and you know that it's working. Do you honestly think so little of me?" Alexstrasza narrowed her eyes slightly upon him, her tone remaining perfectly steady. "I'm worried about you..." Alexstrasza watched him carefully, wondering if her words were going through his head. She knew Nelfarian understood her, he just didn't seem to believe her. She knew he probably thought that she wasn't trying to do anything about this. But truthfully, she thought of it far too much. From a distance, it was perfectly clear. But when approached, it became clouded. "Some things...simply shouldn't be compared." Alexstrasza's eyes searched the area around them briefly once more, considering that it might be necessary to leave. She wanted him to know that she loved him, but he would only request to know why she didn't do anything then. It was a very plain thing. You either accepted it...or you didn't. |

Neltharion remained unmoving, taking in her posture. At first, she didn't do anything but stare, hurt welling up behind her eyes. He'd struck deeper then he'd meant to. He blinked, considering for a brief moment. It seemed that she cared more about the situation then he'd originally thought. Still, he did not wish to take back what he had said, he couldn't find it in himself to regret his words. Her eyes closed briefly, then she rose, fixing him with a piercing look. He returned it with his most emotionless gaze. "Nelfarian, listen to me. You have no respect for the fact that you mean quite a lot to me, so you use it against me. How clever. But do you honestly feel good about that? Or do you just not think about it because it helps you get what you want? You are trying to hurt me, and you know that it's working. Do you honestly think so little of me?" Her words were more honest then he'd expected them to be. For a moment, he was rendered speechless, almost stung. She had pinpointed his behavior. Suddenly he was aware that by speaking the truth, he was being selfish. He struggled to maintain a gaze steady enough to match hers. She was quite confident in what she had said. "I'm worried about you..." Concern was etched into her voice now. She did care. He'd always known that, and now she was simply enforcing it. But if she cared, then why? It made no sense to him. "Some things...simply shouldn't be compared." She cast her gaze around the area, seeming to search it. He hesitated, not wanting to withdraw what he'd said. He was still confident that he had spoken the truth. But now he wasn't entirely sure it was worth the consequences. As much as he wanted her to see that she was so wrong, he didn't want to cause her pain. "Alexstrasza..." He stepped forward, brushing her cheek with his fingertips, taking her hand. "I'm sorry. I just...don't know how to deal with this. I love you with all that I have, I would give you whatever you wanted...I don't understand why we can't be together. It doesn't seem right..." He hated how childish he sounded. A part of him knew why it could not be, but another part of him simply refused to accept it. It was within her control. It was her choice. Therefore it was possible. They could. But she wouldn't. His eyes burned into her. He felt sickened by what he'd done, by what couldn't happen...by what they were forced to bear. "What would you have me do, my love?" He whispered, choking on the words. "Do you want me to never speak of it again? I will do what you ask..." Neltharion tried to mask the pain in his words, but it was impossible, like trying to prevent the sun from setting. |

Alexstrasza breathed out slowly as her words seemed to make him think. She silently thanked the Gods that she had gotten through to him. She didn't want to hurt him, she just wanted to reveal what was actually happening to him. She watched silently as Nelfarian seemed to think over his words, willing him to take his time. She didn't want him to feel pressured. "Alexstrasza..." He said at last, stepping forward and brushing her cheek with his fingertips, taking her hand in his. "I'm sorry. I just...don't know how to deal with this. I love you with all that I have, I would give you whatever you wanted...I don't understand why we can't be together. It doesn't seem right..." Alexstrasza blinked softly, understanding. Alexstrasza continued to look back at him as his eyes burned on her. For what felt like a long moment Nelfarian appeared to be lost in deep thought, trying to work something out. But then, spoke once more. Breaking the silence. "What would you have me do, my love?" His voice came as a mere whisper, sounding as though he almost couldn't believe he was saying the words. "Do you want me to never speak of it again? I will do what you ask..." Alexstrasza's eyes briefly found the ground, wishing she had a satisfying answer for both of them. But she didn't. Alexstrasza looked back at him, breathing out slowly. They had arrived at an impasse. Well, they had hardly arrived. They'd been there for quite some time now. It had simply surfaced again. There was nothing that you could hide from forever, the issue only grew larger in your absence of attention. It was just the way things worked. She didn't say anything at first, her mind returning to his words. She knew he was looking to her for the answers. But the incorrect choice seemed unavoidable. Appearing in front of her every path she looked down. "I don't have a suitable answer for your questions...I would, for the time being, not have your mind dwell on it." Alexstrasza said, wishing she could make the words more then they were. She forced a soft smile, feeling the pressure mount slightly. She knew it would never let her mind rest until she found a way. But there wasn't a way to find. |

Neltharion knew even before he'd spoken the question that she did not have an answer for him. The situation had trapped her every bit as much as it had trapped him, she just dealt with it differently. Alexstrasza didn't understand it any better then he did. He watched her through downcast eyes. She forced a soft smile as she spoke. "I don't have a suitable answer for your questions...I would, for the time being, not have your mind dwell on it." He nodded slowly, deciding to accept it, unsatisfactory as it all was. She didn't want to fight, nor did he; leaving them with no reason to do so. Ignoring the pain that writhed unforgivingly inside of him, he exhaled slowly, trying to clear his mind. He hadn't intended for things to come about this way, and he couldn't help but feel now that nothing had been resolved. They had come to the same standstill that they always arrived at. He hesitated for a moment. She hadn't really directly answered his question. She did not want to dwell on it. That meant nothing... A tiny smirk played across his mouth, but he couldn't find it within himself to maintain it. A wave of unpleasant thoughts had begun to plague his mind. He wrapped his arms around her, trying to shut them out, tightening the embrace. "I just can't bear the thought of you being with someone else..." He hissed, the jealousy prickling his voice. His features stung with the shame of it, but he couldn't conceal it. "The idea of anyone so much as touching you sickens me," his voice wavered slightly. He fought with the dark overtones, trying to keep it more conversational. But he was contradicting himself, and he knew it. Bringing up something that he knew upset him and then attempting to keep calm about it...it was like running out in a rainstorm for no reason and complaining about how wet it was. "Do you think of me, when you're with him?" The envy threatened to consume him just then; he burned with it. He felt a sudden warmth tickling his cheeks, and realized to his horror that he was crying. Neltharion swallowed, releasing her, bowing his head for a moment, and then searching for something else to look at. He wiped his eyes, hissing discontentedly. He hated what was happening, and he hated what he'd said. He was only provoking more pain, but it always seemed so irresistible... "What's he like?" He suddenly demanded, turning back around to look at her, folding his arms. His tone was more even, echoing with severity. |

Alexstrasza supposed she was comforted to know that he was handling it with acceptance now. Though she couldn't tell all that he was feeling. She watched as a tiny smirk played across his features, but he seemed to be struggling to maintain. Alexstrasza couldn't blame him, neither of them were used to it being like this. It was normally a lot lighter...more like some type of play. Where she could find it mildly annoying, but found it too amusing and likeable to ward him off. It was different this time. Nelfarian wrapped his arms around her, pulling her back into a tight embrace. "I just can't bear the thought of you being with someone else..." Alexstrasza blinked softly at his words, listening delicately. His voice was spiced in jealousy, a mere hiss. "The idea of anyone so much as touching you sickens me," Nelfarian seemed to be struggling with himself, confliction and contradiction spreading across his face. Alexstrasza felt pity for him gathering inside of her, surfacing ever so slightly. As she realized just how much this might have bothered him, she supposed it was only natural. Though he'd never spoken of it being on his mind before. "Do you think of me, when you're with him?" They envy. The jealously. The hurt. It was all plain in his tone, and he seemed to know it. Alexstrasza felt her breath catch in her throat as she realized he was crying. She began to reach out to him but Nelfarian pulled sharply away from her, bowing his head. He wiped at his eyes, hissing quietly. Sounding completely discontented. "What's he like?" Nelfarian suddenly demanded, turning suddenly back to look at her. Alexstrasza jumped at his tone, and his question, shocking her. Alexstrasza couldn't find it in her to refuse to answer his questions, not when it clearly pained him to even ask. He wanted to know. "He's..." She trailed off narrowing her eyes slightly. "I don't love him, if that's what you want to know." Alexstrasza said softly, looking into his eyes. "And...yes, I suppose I do find myself thinking of you." She said hesitantly, though she wasn't going to lie to him. Her mouth twitched slightly, he always had been able to read her. Alexstrasza stepped back up to him, closing the distance between them once more. "Has that really been troubling you?" |

Neltharion could feel his head pounding with his heartbeat. He almost wanted to leave, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable in her presence. He'd exposed himself quite a bit more then he'd meant to. The shock was plain on her face. Even though she looked as though she would rather not have, she started to answer him. "He's..." Neltharion braced himself. He watched intently, eyes unmoving, wanting her to finish in spite of how it made him feel. She caught herself, suddenly changing her tact. "I don't love him, if that's what you want to know." Her eyes turned soft. Neltharion flinched inwardly. He didn't really know if this knowledge made him feel better or worse. The fact that she did not feel for her new consort comforted him, but on the other hand, it also meant that Alexstrasza was forcing herself to be with someone that she did not love for the good of her Dragonflight. An unnecessary sacrifice, at least in his eyes. He blinked back to reality as she stepped forwards, closing the distance between them. "Has that really been troubling you?" The question seemed honest enough, but the answer was so obvious that it drew an almost instant spiteful laugh from him. His mouth curled into a bitter expression, something between a smirk and a sneer. "Of course." He lowered his voice, making direct eye contact with her. "How could it not?" His tone turned dark, brooding. "I hope he dies." He did a double-take, stunned by his own words. Did he honestly wish such a thing? Refusing to answer his own question, he averted his eyes. "I apologize, Alexstrasza, that's not what I meant," he lied, surprised that his voice was shaking. He'd unwittingly disturbed himself. |
