Beginnings

Cracks suddenly appeared, surrounding the baby digimon and exposing her to light. Soon enough, the pieces of eggshell all fell away, revealing a SnowBotamon, slowing opening her eyes, which took the time to adjust to light around her.

She was outdoors somewhere, seeing tall trees not far away, then noticing colorful eggs just about her size, all resting around her. But this was not what she first saw. She looked at the smiling face of a young human girl with bright blue eyes that lit up at the sight of her. Despite the girl being bigger than her, the fresh digimon wasn't afraid in the least. She could feel a positive, happy energy emanating from the brown-haired little girl.

So she wasn't startled when the girl picked her up and spoke to her.

"Hey there, you're so cute! I'm Ashley, you're partner. We'll be best friends!" She said, then gently hugged the SnowBotamon closer. "I even have a name for you already. My middle name, and favorite season, Summer!"

The little digimon just snuggled a bit in the girl's arms, happy that she already ha someone that cared about her from the start. Ashley then stood up and opened a portal with her new digivice, taking Summer to her new home.

A Great Team

"Come on, Summer! I know you can bounce faster than that!" Ashley said with a laugh as she ran away from the Nyaromon chasing after her through the forest.

"Oh yeah, watch this!" Summer said, making on great bounce and fly right at Ashley. The two laughed as they took a small break, but were soon interrupted by small growl. They turned to see a BlackSalamon glaring at them hatefully. The dark digimon then launched itself at Summer, but Ashley stepped in the way and was bitten as she grabbed Summer.

"Ashley!" Summer yelled, then glared at the black puppy. "You hurt my best friend!" She then bounced towards the rookie digimon, trying to attack.

"Summer no! You'll get hurt."

"Its OK. I just want you to be safe."

"Summer," Ashley said, then saw her partner glowing and changing form. Soon, a Salamon was standing in her place, glaring at her dark counterpart with a determined expression. "No one hurts my best friend and gets away with it. Petit Punch!" She yelled as she attacked the Blk. Salamon repeatedly and quickly, until the other digimon gave up and ran off.

Ashley then picked up Summer and hugged her. "You did it! You digivolved and beat her! I'm so proud of you!"

Summer beamed as her tamer told her how proud she was. She felt so lucky.

The Goodbye Day

"Come on, sleepyhead, we've got to get going!" Ashley said, shaking the Salamon gently as she got her soccer gear together. It was 7 A.M. and they had a long trip to the championship game.

"Oh come on, five more minutes!" Summer moaned.

Ashley sighed and stored her in her digivice then gathered her things into the van. She then released Summer into the van.

"Ready to go, you two?" Ashley's smiling mother as as she got into the driver's seat.

"Yep!" The little girl said happily, sitting in he passenger seat up front, with Summer curled up in her lap.

"Alright then. Let's go!" The woman then backed out of the driveway, and they were on their way.

About half an hour passed and Summer was more awake, looking out the window, then at Ashley. "You'll do great," she said.

"I hope so," the girl said. "I'm a little nervous. This is the biggest game I've played in."

"Don't worry honey, you'll do great. Just have fun, even if you don't win," the mother said with a smile as she looked at her daughter.

Ashley laughed. "Yeah but- MOM LOOK OUT!" She screamed, as a brown truck come into their lane down the road and seemed to stay there.

Her mother then swerved into the other lane, relieved that there was no traffic. But the rusty brown truck crossed the yellow line again and slammed into them as Ashley held Summer tight.

It happened so fast. Tires squealing. Metal crashing. Glass shattering. Screams. The front of the van was pushed back into the front, especially at the driver's side, killing the mother instantly as metal and glass crashed into her body.

Summer screamed, still in Ashley's arms. She then looked up, shaking and crying, and saw Ashley bleeding all over, but miraculously awake. "No! Ashley!" The puppy screamed. She then tried to get out and get Ashley out. But the entire front of the van was smashed in, with smoke from the engine starting to reach them, and blood rapidly being pumped from Ashley's partially crushed body. Summer looked and saw the corpse next to them, barely recognizable as human. "Oh...oh god. Come on Ashley, please stay with me."

Ashley said nothing, and barely moved, except for her eyes, that looked at Summer. She was in too much pain to speak, and with the metal crushing her, she couldn't move.

"Ashley...no..."Summer said as tears gathered in her eyes. She just moved close to the dying girl and cried, until an ambulance finally arrived.

Ashley was carefully pulled out of the vehicle, as others took out her mother and put her in a body bag. The little girl was then loaded into the ambulance and Summer jumped in. "Please save her!"

"We're doing a we can," one of the medics said, as they desperately tried t stop the bleeding. Ashley had many broken bones, internal and external bleeding, but mos tof her organs seemed to be OK.

After about ten minutes, there was blood all over Ashley as she looked at Summer one last time. Her breathing was slowing drastically until finally, she was dead. The Salamon cried loudly as she watched them try to revive her. But they failed.

Summer's best friend was dead.

Alone

There wasn't much of a funeral. Ashley's father had abandoned the family long before this time, and so only the grandparents showed up at the burial, as well as Summer, tears streaming down her face. Ashley's blood had been on her fur, after the accident, and though she had washed it off, she still felt like it was there. A reminder that always lingered closer to her.

Words were said, but Summer never listened. She was deep in shock and depression. She watched the casket being lowered into the ground, then watched as dirt was dumped into the grave. Soon enough, only the Salamon stood there, staring at Ashley's grave for God knows how long. She cried herself to sleep that night, despite the storm, despite the rain that poured down on her heavily.

A day passed, or days, it didn't matter to Summer. But soon she left the cemetery, her eyes no longer happy and lit up like they were when Ashley was around. Instead, they were glazed over, with an empty, dead look as if she wasn't really there. She couldn't even feel the hunger, or pain. None of it mattered and she seemed to cast those sensations away. She felt as if every ounce of happiness had been drained from her. She just kept walking through the city, through the streets, eventually into a portal leading to the forest of the digital world. She walked on, unaware of any enemy digimon that could have been there. They could have jumped in front of her and attacked, and she still wouldn't notice.

(To be continued. If anyone wants to join and mod the attacking digimon, or Gatomon and Wizardmon, that's fine by me.)
