Long time reader, First time Poster, Love the comic and all that bean siting on joining the forum and commenting on this for a few days, from an overly simplified (and likely needed to be to fit in to four panels) P.O.V the dialog is correct but misleading in it's over simplicity, a more accurate (not quite as) short explanation of Aussie politics is this. "Both sides of mainstream politics are fairly centralist, the Conservative Coalition is Right of Center on the majority of issues, the Labor Party is a bit further left than the Coalition is right. then their are the Minor Parties who either have a narrow policy focus or are further left or right than the major parties usually drifting in to or coming from Crack Pot Territory" "Folks have bean burned by Fringe Minor Parties in the past so new Minor Parties can swing Balance of Power at best before most fall apart two or three elections down the road. If you want to get ahead in Federal politics you latch on to the fringes or a faction of a Major Party or try and luck it out as an Independent in the Senate, by the time your in a position to effect change your too old to want to fight the system, too invested in the system or your issues have past you by" hell this is OZ where we have a political party for every special interest group that wants to register a party, many have a sitting member somewhere on a local, state or federal level or an independent affiliate who is a sitting member. I could get wordy on some of our minors (and we do have some dossies) and major party factions but I get to prattling on about them since there are so many of them that are interesting if only in a WTF?? way, perhaps in later posts. |
