Washington seems to have given up wigs in his afterlife, though he's still ostentatious by modern standards. (I wonder if his actual hair was long as many men had it at the time.) Edit: Wow, some research indicates he never wore a wig, just powdered his hair. It sure looks like a wig in the portraits. Edited by Minivet, Jan 22 2013, 04:24 PM.

I don't get this dichotomy. Sure, the machine branch makes sense. But what does "have no right to act in the capacity of a machine" mean in the context of this discussion? |

Hi all. I'm new here, but I really wish Mulcahy had read some history, or if he had, was willing to hit back, verbally speaking. I know Speedy has, so I'll suggest what Speedy might say in this situation. Someone who literally owned other human beings as property has no moral business lecturing a human who WAS treated as property on ethics. Washington owned slaves. Mulcahy was essentially made into a slave. Washington thinks he's got any moral authority here? And while we're at it, where's the ghost of Oney Judge? If you're not interested in following the link, Judge was Washington's slave. IShe escaped to Canada, and Washington sent a slave taker after her. The slave taker was unable to kidnap her and force her to come back, so instead, Washington instructed the slave catcher to treat her like an ungrateful child, and guilt her into returning. That failed too. Finally Washington told her that, were she to come home, he might eventually set her free *after he died* . Her response, which ought to rank as high as any of Washington's speeches in our history books, was "I am free, and choose to remain so". Judge died poor, but free, and by her own hand. Not by the hand of someone who called himself her owner and master. No doubt Washington was, in his own time and way, a great man, a hero, and a genius. But I don't see any reason Mulcahy ought to fight fair against him. And if he won't, Speedy could tell Washington a thing or two. |

Sure, plus the fact that Washington STILL doesn't answer the question... |

Welcome to the forums jjasper and Eonknight. Thanks for the link to the Oney Judge article. As to where her ghost is, hanging around as a ghost is partly linked to how strongly you are remembered. She likely doesn's make the cut but you might be able to start a write in campaign. ![]() Side issue no one has brought up yet: US ghosts in Australia! Answers a longstanding question we've had about if that's possible. |
