So here's the question we readers have to ask ourselves. Is Clarice her real name, or is Joy her real name? Or is one her middle name maybe? All I have to say is having the two main females (hero and villain) of the story being named Joy and Hope is just kind of super corny considering the plot material. I snickered several times imagining some reactions for Speedy. I'm not 100% sure about it, but I'd cast my lot with Joy being a pseudonym chosen while creating an alternate ID to serve as a back-up plan during the whole 'Safehouse' ordeal. She's probably manipulating the General on the side with a little help from the 'rogue ghosts'. But that's just how I read it -now-, extrapolating from the presented information. There are afterall only two types of people in the world, people capable from extrapolating from incomplete data... Edited by Taolan, Oct 25 2012, 08:46 AM.

Almost certainly a complete pseudonym. She's on the run from the law, after all. I like her impression of a wide-eyed benevolent soul. (Perhaps that's why she chose "Joy" - she's simultaneously poking fun at what she perceives Hope as.) |

Also. They exist -now- so WHY do none of the agents just wear tinted contacts? |

It's been a while since I wondered that, but you've got me thinking about it again—argh! That said, we've seen quite a few agents without dark glasses—albeit mostly indoors—so perhaps some of them are already wear do? |

There are hundreds of agents - presumably some already do use tinted contacts. But for the leadership, it may have become part of their image. (Pat might have to change that if he ever does run for office, though.) |

The agent-only areas of the Agency building -definitely- have Chipped-safe light levels. Wouldn't make sense otherwise. Other than that all I can figure is it's a habit for otter? Social explanation - just as much a part of the image, a good pair of sunglasses can become part of one's identity. For someone who gets splitting migraines from too much light, a good pair of sunglasses becomes a security blanket. Most agents probably wouldn't want to change away after five years of wearing them pretty much 24/7. ... I just envisioned a scene where Clarice or one of her new lackeys (evil geniuses never lack lackeys) knocks the glasses off an Agent in a brightly lit area, who reacts at first for show and then continues dominance of the encounter commenting to the fact of tinted/transitions-style contacts. |

Nope. It's just character design. Above all else, it's a comic. It's easier to maintain the idea they're a tribe if they've got a unifying visual characteristic. Same reason the X-Men and the Avengers have Xs and As on everything from their luggage to their dog collars even when they're out of uniform. |

That would be nicely dramatic, but considering that: 1. They exploited Pat's photophobia in the safehouse; 2. The public likely knows of it as their main weakness (or at least they know Clarice knows and therefore have to presume other enemies do too); 3. They now have omniperception through the activated chip that can substitute for sight; and 4. It would be a real pain to put contacts in all day on the off-chance it becomes necessary, possibly degrading vision when below dark sunglasses -- --given their conscientiousness, I think in the intervening five years they've probably practiced a lot of scenarios where they lose their glasses (or are subjected to strong lights) so they learn to reflexively close their eyes and switch to chip-o-vision more effectively than Pat did before. I hadn't thought about the A's thing for the Avengers. Probably because I've been watching too much of one of the newer series. And no, not the one with spider-man. That just screams all kinds of wrong to me. |
