Hm. So they're trying to find Clarice through the arm - probably the lab that made it.

Speedy is reminding me of the saying, "A language is a dialect with an army and a navy."

Substantive points aside: that last panel had me squealing with delight. Writing for Speedy must be so hard and yet so rewarding.

I'm glad it went over well with linguists. That panel killed me. It's why I missed last Thursday. Because it sounds good but if you really parse it out, it makes no sense! Linguists search first, then triangulate for location, and I can't remember the last time a linguist was the vanguard of any form of attack. I guess maybe you could argue neocolonization through assimilation but then there's the whole bit where bringing that up is like slapping a linguist straight across their face. Didn't want that to happen.

I decided to run with it because (a) deadline and (b) he's talking to the OACET in-house team of assassins so I guess you could say he's speaking on their level.

Personally, I found it so back-slappingly, choke-on-my-mid-morning-cuppa funny because it was so unexpected. I thought it through a couple of times and couldn't make much sense of it in the context of actual linguistics and gave up, perfectly satisfied. (Although good gravy, relating it to neo-colonialism is awesome.)

Totes worth missing Thursday for, IMO. :-)

Oh yeah, forgot to say: looks like we'll get to find out who Hirose is pretty soon.
