(reads alt-text) ...I don't care what country you're in, the V-for-Victory is always done palm toward the viewer. What Hope's doing is just inexplicable.

And what I learned today!

@Papa Smurf: Pat does look like he "relaxed" a bit into his married years. Hope is looking good. Who still dresses up to fly?

People who are expecting papparazzi and fanboys to be taking photos.

On a side note, as they're going to Australia, I must request they eat at least one meal at Outback Jack's, so we can see the staff's faces when a group of cyborgs all complete their 1kg rump steak challenge in the same sitting.

Your link doesn't seem to work.

But in any case, the V sign with the back of the hand outward is said to have started during the Hundred Years' War. It's a way for an archer to say to a knight on the other side, "Yaaaah! I still got my bow fingers!" (which the knight's side would have severed if they had been able to catch the archer.)

[Edited to fix the link]

That's a made-up story, I'm afraid. Fully debunked at the link, fixed here.

I know, the point I was trying to make is that the back-of-the-hand-toward-viewer version simply does not seem to exist in any culture in the world except as a British insult. All the "good" versions are palm-forward. And it takes a deliberate extra physical effort to do the insult version, so I honestly can't understand what Hope is doing there.

I heard the two finger salute originated somewhere in Ancient Rome. Walking into a bar and holding up two fingers (stationary, palm facing signer), meant you were ordering a round of drinks. Jerking your fingers up and down while making the sign, however, meant "up yours!" It evolved from there.

I cannot for the life of me remember where I heard or saw that origin story.

Have you ever... Ever felt like this? How strange things happen, are you going Round the Twist
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? (Note: I have no involvement with the series, I just think it looks awesome)
