I was expecting something a little different, but it works.
It takes an average of forty-three muscles to frown, seventeen muscles to smile...

But only three for proper trigger squeeze.

Si vis pacem, para bellum.

So this attack on Mike was an attempt to get Pat out there? She used herself as bait, it seems. Is it possible to use the evil ghosts and hijack Pat while he's out of body? Or is this a moment where Pat and Evil Plastic Bitch get to talk for a bit?

And does Evil Plastic Bitch know that her work on Hope failed? Did it really fail? What was Evil Plastic Bitch doing with Hope's blood? Are Mike's wards anything like Hope's ability to banish ghosts? Do women really think as dirty as Hope does in the earlier chapters where she says she wants Pat so bad that she sloshes when she walks?

If Pat has access to anything with a microchip, does that mean that Evil Plastic Bitch's mechanical body is now his plaything? Something as major as an arm probably hooks up to some serious nerve endings, and then there would have to be a computer somewhere inside her capable of interpreting the impulses from those organic nerve endings into actual mechanical commands. And if so, Pat could cause her some unbelievably serious pain, if not beat her to death with her own arm, in which he could probably do the bully thing and chant, "Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?"

Gah! There's just so many possibilities here that my head will a'splode!!! :puppy:
If you can't live without me, why aren't you dead yet?

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.

catnipsandwich totally called this. :-)

(And it was a good theory too. She got them to make it so you couldn't just pull that arm off; that either meant making it impossible to wrench off by adding even more metal to her body, or giving her a way to get people off of it fast. Electric shock seems like the most straightforward way if you can get around the problem of insulating Clarice herself.)

Well, some people enjoy pain ( one of my school friends licked the terminals on 9 volt batteries ) , so she might be that close to an "O" right now!

Chrysophase2003,
Did you watch the television program called "Soap"?
Your post sounds like the end of that show.

No, sorry. Was that the sitcom from 1981?

It was a bit before my time. But if it has ebil women made of plastic, king cyborgs, and incredibly flexible psychics, I feel that I've missed something of immeasurable value. :D

Well, this is more like what I was expecting.

I'm starting to think Clarice tries to game things out so that they don't contain a losing option. For example, she's probably about to manipulate Pat by threatening Mike, or something like that, but if Mike hadn't resisted at all she might have just taken his blood, wiped his memory, and been on her way, and that would have worked for her purposes as well.

(Pretty sure her use for ghost-seers' blood, to answer that question of yours, Chrysophase, is to figure out how she can duplicate their advantages of birth and become Evil Lincoln after death.)

Oh. I was hoping Clarice was going to clone an army of mind-wiped human psychic batteries, because a lab filled with test-tube babies in artificial wombs meant to be just cogs to be used and cast aside when they're burnt out would definitely freak me the hell out. Come to think it, that may be a horror story in and of itself. Robbing humans of humanity and such. >:)

I wouldn't rule that out as part of her course of experiments, but I think her end goal is clear.

No, no plastic women etc. , etc.

Just the way the show ended with a recap of the goings on and questions about what would happen in the next episode.
Sometimes it was really funny, other times sad like a regular soap opera.

Maybe, but the all-consuming HOW of the story is what intrigues me. In the page previous to one you mentioned, Clarice goes on about how the universe remembers you, with no regard for sinner or saint, black or white. In that respect, what's she's going for is not so much notoriety as it is infamy. While Mike was trying to warn her about the path she was going doing (citing Hitler and Stalin), I think she intends to have the world remember her by inflicting wounds from which the scars will never fade.

And you're totally right. That's one of the things I like most about this story. The bad guys seem to have an endless series of motives and plans within plans, so that even while Mike, Hope, and Pat can anticipate and defuse a few, more keep coming. It really keeps the reader on their toes.

Oh yeah. I know what you mean now. The dramatic organ music and erudite narrator leaving the story on a cliffhanger so you'll tune in the next day. As long as you've got plenty of unfinished plot threads to work with, it ends up sounding a bit like one of those old radio dramas, doesn't it?

Yes it very much sounds like the radio dramas and even the serial shorts that ran at the Saturday matinee ( I do remember a few of those from when I was small, the movie shorts and cartoons, and re- run radio dramas).

The early televisoin shows often grew out of radio shows ( I would think the soaps would have been an easy transisition).

Yeah, well, we all figured SOMEthing was going to happen to screw things up. We were just not going to get Clarice incarcerated so easily.

If I were Pat I'd call Ben to port her ... but maybe that's not possible at present? How far away did he go?

It bothers me somewhat that Pat's gone from t-shirt casual to suit and tie in the third panel. For some reason I have a bit of chill in my gut about that. Clarice bout to get fucked up.

That was a mental image I did NOT need. :-)

(Please let's not wonder what her ideal vibrator would be like…)
