Some thoughts on nearby bars: Blue Wave: Maybe the classiest, but probably the most expensive in the area. Probably won't be attracting a huge PAX crowd. Drink: Also expensive, but good food/snacks. Small. Lucky's: Bigger and has more space. Can be hugely packed on weekend nights with a college crowd. Atlantic Beer Garden: A classic Boston Sports Bar, notwithstanding the fact that 95% of bars in Boston show sports anyway. I don't know what it's like in the evenings, though. Tamo: A hotel bar. I've never been here, but most of the hotel bars in the area tend towards the classy/expensive. Given that this one features its head chef on the front page, it's probably no exception. J. J. Foley's: Okay, this one breaks the distance rule. It's about 15 minutes away by mass transit. On the other hand, it's literally across the street from my building, so I had to list it. Excellent semi-divey Irish bar with plenty of space. |

Welcome iceligth! And thanks for putting together a suggestion list. I'm drawn to Atlantic Beer Garden and Lucky's. Other opinions? |

HOLY SH-- THE ATLANTIC BEER GARDEN HAS FRIED SNICKERS I AM ALREADY THERE. I mean... hey, the Atlantic Beer Garden sounds good! The feedback indicates Saturday afternoon is probably good for most people, somewhere between 2 and 5. Anyone have a better handle on times, or events at PAX they absolutely can't miss? Welcome, iceligth! |

I'm in for wherever, as long as it's walking distance. |

And I'm here to tell you loyal readers that Otter DID NOT try the fried snickers! And you know what ... she was right! The cheesecake was a better choice. The wrapping around the snickers bar was to thick and chewy. Beyond chewy actually. I wanted a lighter outer layer like one finds on Fried Ice Cream (available locally at Brown Sugar Cafe). The sweet tooth was still satiated though by the extraction of the melty snickers from inside its deep fried tomb. Then consuming said snickers along with the scoop of ice cream it came with. Your humble reviewer admits that while "Melty Snickers with a Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream " may not roll off the tongue it certainly does slide over the tongue very nicely. Thank you all for your loyal readership of the Dessert Review Blog! -------------------------------------- Oh what, you wanted to hear how the meet up went? We met, we ate, we drank, we talked. New friends were made. All in all a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My thanks to Otter, Brown, Dave, Fuz and the other readers who made it down to the Atlantic Beer Garden. |
