Convention for 2009

Okay, due to the recession I've cut my convention schedule for the year down to its bare bones. I don't go to cons for the profit but I generally do quite well. I usually go with a friend, but everyone seems to be more selective about their conventions this year.

I know for a fact I'll be attending Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC (June 19 - 21). I prepaid at the end of last year's convention and we locked in a table. I'll be at this one with Ursula Vernon and one or two other people from the NCWCCC.

I'll also be at Otakon in Baltimore, MD (July 17 - 19). I've already booked the hotel rooms. I'll be there with Jennie Breeden.

I want to attend Connecticon, since that's my favorite convention, but that's still up in the air.

Any feedback or ideas?

I'm so excited that you're visiting my home town (Baltimore), and totally bummed that I won't be there when you visit. If you need any recommendations on how to get in trouble fun things to do in Baltimore, let me know. I highly recommend the American Visionary Art Museum if you've never visited.

Are you planning to attend anything on the east coast in August?
Sorry, this is my first conspiracy so I'm a little slow.

No, I wasn't planning on any conventions during that time, although if you know of a good one I'm always interested in new ones!

Don't know of any other conventions, unfortunately.

Oh, one more Baltimore tip: The Papermoon Diner used to be awesome when I lived in Baltimore. I can't vouch for its current state of awesomeness, but I do recommend the sweet potato fries.

WTH is usually in February and I haven't decided what the schedule should be for 2010.

There's no way to say this without sounding as though I'm dumping on WTH - and I'm not, as they are a fantastic organization that goes out of their way to support local artists - but I'm not sure it's the kind of convention that merits a long drive. It's a college convention with a fun and energetic crowd, but it is very small. Attendance of persons who aren't Guilford students can probably be counted in the dozens.

I suppose it's too early to ask whether you'll be making it to Baltimore again next summer, then. ;)

Actually, we can both vouch for it's current state of awesomeness (very awesome imho, or not-so-humble)

Yes, Papermoon diner is still fantastic. We had the chance to go there on our vacation, and it was as awesome as it's ever been.

We're planning on it! I should really go book that hotel room right now...
