BOOK REVIEW DEUTSCHE SOLDATEN Uniforms, Equipment & Personal Items of the German Soldier 1939-45 By Agustin Saiz A treasure trove of photos and information of all the equipment of the average Landser of WWII, including the paperwork, even down to little details of privately purchased items such as boot polish. It goes into quite some detail. For example, in the Helmet section, there are close-ups of stitching variations of the covers, manufacturers’ stamps, decal variations and the like. In the section titled "Food and Drink", I found something called "The Esbit", a tiny portable cooking device that used smokeless inflammable tablets. Something familiar to anyone who has used standard British Army rat-packs! Posted Image There is also a little note about the origin of "Fanta" drinks too. The text is interspersed with a biography of one particular man, Anton Imgrund, mostly at the beginning of the book, ending with a copy of the official notification of his death in action in 1943.
