Any know it I will need to extend my gear lever or steering when fitting a 3" body lift on my 1994 Vitara? I've told that pre 1995 I shouldn't need to do either. I'm hoping to get a lift fitted to allow for my new tyres, Insa turdo Sahara 235/75/15's but I want it done for next weekend, if can afford it. |

If you lift the body 3" you'll probably have to lengthen the steering shaft between the engine bulkhead and the steering box. I didn't have to do this on my 2" lift. Your 4wd lever would probably need lengthened but you may get away with the gear lever, you wont however be able to put the plastic console back in unless you lengthen both. If you do a 3" lift you'll be able to raise the fuel tank. Be prepared to lengthen brake lines! |

OK cheers mate. Brake lines on all corners? One for rear I believe and one for each front? But is there an easy way to tell the difference between male and female I've just looking but it's hard to see in the dark. I assume it's just a case of welding in some bar to lengthen them? sorry for all the questions. |

I assume your talking about welding the gear stick. As as far as I'm aware the vitara uses hydraulic brakes I know the vitara are old school but the rod brake system went out of production some time in the early 20s. You'll need hydraulic pipes!! You should be able to pick these up online easily enough buddy. Landy ones come in +2 +3 +4 +5 off the shelf. Don't forget to get stainless steel braided ones as you might as well upgrade them at the same time. If no one stock them you should be able yo get them made to measure, when I worked at Hein Gericke we used to get them made to order in multiple colours etc they used to turn them around within 5 days, just can't remember there name now. Damn you early onset whatdya call it thingy me bob Steering I would like to know its well welded if wèlding it. Otherwise have slip over joiner made up, saying that there are so many lifted Vits you must be able to buy one off some one. How are you doing you body lift? Purpose built kit or welding 3" box section into the body mount locations? |

having done this to 4 vitaras over the years it aint all bad. you will have to lengthen only the 4wd shift the gear shift will b ok.plus a little modding to the cowling. the steering joint will need replacing although it will still b ok but not recommended. dave bits 4 vits sells these. brake hoses will b ok but u will have to change only one wich is the main one that attaches to the rear diff.kev-coopers(motor parts sell these for around a tenner. you will need to make up brakets for your bumpers as this will all be altered all in all its very simple. we did the last lift in under a day..... |

Cheers guys. Hydraulics! I must have the most advanced car in Cornwall. Ok so I've got some braided hoses coming and some bolts to lengthen the steering. The kit is the Jimnybits lift kit. one last question, when welding in some bar for the gear linkages do I need to weld in 3" or less? Cheers |

Just done a 2 inch body lift on my maverick, not to bad just use plenty of easing fluid on the old nuts & bolts before you start. |

Cheers, wish I had gone for 2" to be honest but at least with 3" i'll be able to relocate the fuel tank. Think I will stick with the old wheels and do the lift after the weekend when It doesn't matter if it's off the road for a while. We'll see, if everything is here and I have someone to do the welding I might just crack on. |
