Well as a few of you know i've gone "up North" yep past Exeter on a

weeks Holiday in the peak district, what an absolutly stunning part of

the county.

anyway while here doing Holiday stuff we are fitting in a few lanes on

route to places.... as you do.

anyway as ever a little research goes a long way and I found some of

the ones not to drive before heading out.

now that said it does not allow you to predict that the end of a

rather long down hill bumpy byway ends in a gate that too small to fit

a car through.. oh well at least there was enough room to turn and do

the ascent.

its tough going, reading some of the local issues on the more popular

byways that as ever 4x4's are getting a lot of bad press, having seen

one of the byways in question I'm not sure any 4x4 that's kitted for

green lanes would cause the problem of widening that was evident.

as soon as I took a turn on this byway onto another stretch that was a

lot more bumpy and looked a bit tricky in places all the problem was

gone... so 2 wheel drive cars avoiding the bumpy bits on the main

track? or prehaps 4x4s on road tyres with a driver thats worried about

putting a dent in a bash plate, drivers that have no faith in there

vehicles or prehaps they dont know how to drive them, but to say the

problem is the result of 4x4 green lane enthusiats I very much doubt,

Of coarse then it could also be the many thousands of walkers who seem

to walk where ever the like, as thats all I saw on the day I used the

byway oh and the 4 mountain bikers.

anyway rant over lol. but this is why its important for us to stick to

the route and not venture off onto the verges.

Day 2 was no green lanes :(

Day 3 squeezed in a few lanes on a day out to Bakewell missed a couple

more due to road works and a missed turned

Great pictures Mike , from my neck of the woods up there , Buxton .

Nice to see the old limestone walls , plenty of room for the paj up there , big wide lanes , some fairly tricky boggy n rocky lanes to be had tho around there .

Looked good weather for ya too!!
