Three trucks set off from Tamerton Foliot at 8.15 for a full day out.

Wilky led with Jim navigating in Wilky's truck and it was going to be tested! Matt Kelly followed in the Red Disco with his son and a friend and Joe Lane and his buddy Paul brought up the rear in the 3.5 V6 Pajero.

The boathouse was too deep so it was across the Dam and up to Maddacleave and then across to Lamerhooe, where after a little deliberation Wilky waded in fighting the cross current getting to the other side! Matt followed in the disco and after a mid stream stall followed by an even quicker restart managed to empty the river with a truckfull of river water. Joe then purred across in the 3.5 after raising his air suspension!!

We then headed north to Bude recceing a new lane or two on the way, it became apparent that Matt's worn Colways weren't really doing the business so one challenging lane was dropped from the route.

After a couple of lanes near Stratton which held a surprise or two, we parked up by the canal at Bude for lunch and an Ice Cream before heading down the very photogenic North Cornwall coast towards Crackington Haven.

Some nice lanes with some little hazards were encountered before we headed back down south east via Bodmin Moor, Lewannick, Callington, Gunnislake and finally over the dam again to finish back at Tamerton at 5.30

A great day out 9 hours of great lanes, great scenery and inspiring photography.
Thanks to everyone for their input and enthusiasm and their willingness to have a go!!

Paul - sorry you couldn't make it - thanks for the call - hope everything went as well as it could have gone - Lamerhooe was very challenging as you can see how Wilky got dragged to the left - would have tested the Vit, I know the driver would have gone for it!!

hope you all washed your cars thoroughly after going through the salt water :tut:
ive stopped going across there now after i bought the pajero convertible,
the salt water has done all the bearings in and given it a lovely coat of rusty coloured metal,

looks like a landrover from underneath,
probrably would have fallen apart by the next m.o.t.

must admit i've never crossed lopwell that high.

and lamerhooe i'll still wait till we have no rain as i reckon the vit would go side ways there at any other time.

nice pics though

Gave the trucks another go back across the dam when the tide was low at 5pm. so they had a fresh water rinse and the Tamar at Lamerhooe was running fast and fresh!! Lewannick was fresh water too.

Lamerhooe would have been interesting in a Vit - the farmer turned up as Joe was preparing to cross and said '' you're not going across there are you?'' to which the response was '' two trucks already gone thru!'' He watched in amazement!

You'll have to get that Paj Mike!!

Fantastic day Jim.

Some really great lanes. I've just dried all my lights out and had a go at waterproofing them. And I've only lost one main beam bulb. Result!

I think Wilky got some pics of me doing the deep crossing. Love to see them!

We'll definately be out again sometime. And I've got the Aerial mounted on the A bar and SWR'd so no lost comms again.

The mag mount fell off the bonnet 4 times but running it over was the last straw :D

Thanks again for a great day. I'll get some pics up shortly.

Joe

Hi Folks,

Had a great day and the disco now sports a blue door with a mirror

The kids thnk I should sprinkle some cress seeds on the carpet and see what happens. But at least with it full of water I didnt head so far downstream

Great day and great lanes and great company.

Matt.

Thanks Joe - great pictures

Yes very nice shots, GWF.

Wilky, you look like your about to lick the window as you go towards the water, also like the headache pills on the dash (think on 2nd Mitzy?), where you :ill: again? No double Maccy d's too sort you out

Lol.

We had Mcd's brekky but my passenger has hurt his shoulder. Hence the neurofen.

I think Wilky and me were both really pleased with our Mitzi's wading ability. I know I was adrenalined RIGHT up at both water crossings. The joys of having a petrol

Here's a few pics of the Lamerhooe Crossing... Shit quality due to only having my phone with me!!

The Disco dropping in...

Posted Image

Slowly does it???

Posted Image

Oh shit it's stalled!!!

Posted Image

At this point I was running for my truck and working out if I was going to get wet attaching the rope, but hoping it would be either Matt or Jim (as we know Jim likes driving in dirty river water!)...

BUT thank god it re-started...

Posted Image

The 3500 V6 petrol making it look very easy!!!

Posted Image

Posted Image

The adjustable lift with the body lift certainly does the trick, it was much higher in the water than mine or the Disco...

Posted Image

All in all a good effort, two trucks with slightly damp carpets and one truck with a mobile fish tank!!!

I leave you to work out which was which???

Wilky ;)
